What is worship? When should we worship? Is there a right and a wrong way?

Worship is to God, praise is about Him

Let's start with The Lords Prayer:

Our Father... first we acknowledge God for who He is.

Who art in heaven... we acknowledge Him for where he is. He rules over everything.

Holy is your name... we acknowledge him for what He is

Luke 40 When Jesus comes to Jerusalem as king. For time's sake... I will not read the whole thing but it says

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”[b]
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

God wants to be praised or He will cause the rocks to cry out. Ain't no rock gonna give Him my praise!

Ps 7:17 I will give thanks to the Lord because of HIS righteousness.

Psalm 100

A psalm for giving grateful praise.

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
    Worship the Lord with gladness;
    come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
    It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
    we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
    his faithfulness continues through all generations.

The inner essence of worship is to know God truly and then respond from the heart to that knowledge by valuing God, treasuring God, prizing God, enjoying God, being satisfied with God above all earthly things. And then that deep, restful, joyful satisfaction in God overflows in demonstrable acts of praise from the lips and demonstrable acts of love in serving others for the sake of Christ.
